    If headers feel like a hassle and you\u2019d rather do without footers altogether, you might have tried integrating them manually into the main text. However, Microsoft Word offers many useful automation features<\/b>, while manual layout adjustments can sometimes be tricky. To save you time and frustration, we\u2019ll show you how to work with headers and footers and, for example, automatically insert chapter headings into the header. <\/p>\n

    Click on the respective dropdown menu and choose a layout you like. The most versatile option is the \u201cBlank (Three Columns)\u201d<\/b> template, as it provides the most flexibility. You can delete unused fields easily.     When it comes to scientific papers, less is more<\/b>. Although it is up to you whether you want to insert your name, matriculation number and the (short) title of the thesis in the header of each page, you should rather do without the logo of your college or university for reasons of space and copyright (especially if you are thinking about publishing). <\/p>\n

    To edit entries in the header or footer, double-click in the respective area. The main page content will then be grayed out, allowing you to write directly in the header or footer. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    For the font, it\u2019s advisable to stick with Word\u2019s default formatting styles (\u201cHeader\u201d or \u201cFooter\u201d) or use a smaller font size (e.g., 10 pt) similar to footnotes and endnotes.     Here you can:<\/strong><\/p>

    1. switch between\u00a0section headers and footers<\/strong><\/li>
    2. switch between\u00a0header and footer section by section<\/strong><\/li>
    3. use the\u00a0same header or footer for multiple sections<\/strong>\u00a0or define new options for each section<\/li>
    4. you can\u00a0define a different looking header or footer for the first page<\/strong>\u00a0of each section with the \u201cDifferent First Page\u201d option<\/li>
    5. you can\u00a0insert different headers and footers for right and left book pages<\/strong>\u00a0respectively with \u201cDifferent Odd & Even Pages\u201d option<\/li>
    6. you shouldn\u2019t change the\u00a0position or size of your headers and footers<\/strong>\u00a0because the distances from the top or bottom of the page are adjusted in such a way that the margins allow for printing<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
