is a German translation of the item next to the English one. So, the children can conclude the meaning of the word either from the given picture behind the word or from the translation. Mostly they might do it with the help of the translated item. As a subsidiary, there is an English sentence which is translated into German below the item, too. The word itself is marked in blue, but only in the English version, what can make it a little difficult for the pupils to find out the reference. However, the used word is given with a translation firstly, so that is might not become a big problem for the kids to use the word correctly. The example sentences have a fairly easy structure (e.g. “Max is my brother” (p. 8) or “We speak English” (p. 9)). Sometimes there are words pupils learn at a later point in their language acquisition (e.g. “tent”). However, there is a German translation just below the English sentence pupils can determinately cope with such vocabulary. Some topics end with the presentation of special useful phrases. These are phrases like “Questions and answers”, “Days and months”, “Classroom phrases” or “Times”, it always depends on the foregoing topic. The phrases which are given for the pupils are always phrases they use in special situations like during their classroom conversation. Because of that, it is valuable for the children to learn them through this dictionary.
At the end of the dictionary pupils can find lists in which every item of the dictionary is listed up. The first list is an English - German list, the second a German - English one. Both lists accord to further dictionaries the pupils will get to know in higher classes. In opposition to the German - English list, the English -German list also envisages the pupils with the phonetic transcription of each item. Explanations to the phonetic symbols are given on the last two pages of the dictionary, so that the pupils know how to operate with them correctly. This means that the pupils get to know how to pronounce a word in the right way because they get an idea which sound clinks in which way. However, the phonetic symbols are described it seems to be a little too difficult for pupils who begin to learn English to apply these in the correct way.
The dictionary is designed and structured very considerably. The pages are not cluttered so that each item can be identified easily. Especially the vocabulary pages are not designed very spacious because there are too many words on one
