1.1 Introduction and Background to Research

The Oman Sultanate is one of the largest oil producers in the Middle East. Oman's economy is dependent on the manufacture and export of petroleum. Oman has been working for the past many years to diversify the economy so that oil dependence is reduced and unemployment is steadily rising. The sultanate of Oman, in particular university graduates, is facing a foremost challenge of youth redundancy. Increased admittance to higher education in the Oman improved unemployment, as it mostly occupies expatriate workers who absorb graduates into the community sector in a costly and inappropriate way and the private sector (Magd & McCoy, 2014).

Oman's rate of unemployment rose from 17.30% (2015) to 17.5% (2016). From 1991 to 2016 the overall unemployment rate was 18.34% (Interchange Economics 2018). At present, the work market of Oman is crowded and is incapable to accommodate more and more people. The Oman management has also made tremendous exertions to promote entrepreneurship and encourage small medium-sized businesses to build ample job opportunities. There have been many supportive and motivated initiatives, including the Riyada — SME Development Public Authority, Sharakah (Youth Projects Development Fund), Intilaaqah, National Business Center (NBC), the CELL program, the Oma American Business Council, Zubair Small Enterprise Center (Zubair SEC), Aiesec Oman and the Jisser Internship (Program) Injaz (Shah et al., 2020).
