Excerpt from the Book

1.1 Background to the Study

What we consider instructions and advice are as old as humanity (Mutie and Ndambuki 1999). In the traditional African society, aunts, uncles and other elders were responsible for counseling young people. These people knew exactly when and how to do it. As a result, the young man knew exactly what was expected of them. They knew not only their rights in society, but also their duties. According to Wangoi (1994), he discovered that in Africa the disintegration of the traditional social structure has given way to modernization and, therefore, the traditional school, which previously dealt with issues affecting young members of society, also It had dissolved. This has created a vacuum, since a topic such as sexuality is rarely discussed among the older members of society and the younger generation.Wangoi (1994) also noted that teenagers are abandoned and neglected when it comes to counseling. She suggests that clear, supportive and progressive guidelines are needed to solve most of the problems they face. Teenagers should be instructed on how to treat their sexuality, for example, to combat teenage pregnancies, abortions and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV / AIDS.
