This works discusses the Christian Ethic Moral Responsibility in Marriage.

From the perspective of Canon Law, the term ‘‘marriage’’ designates both the act by which a man and a woman mutually give and accept each other permanently and exclusively, with the right to each other’s bodies regarding the acts ordered to procreation; and the permanent society that arises between them as a consequence of the earlier commitment. Marriage is the matrimonial covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. The matrimonial consent is an act of the will by which a man and a woman mutually give and accept each other through an irrevocable covenant in order to establish marriage. From a valid marriage, it arises between the spouses a bond which by its nature is perpetual and exclusive. Moreover, a special sacrament strengthens and consecrates the spouses in a Christian marriage for the duties and dignity of their state. What can be the moral responsibility in the marriage state? This work therefore shall be scheduled as follows: first we shall talk about the time of engagement, secondly we shall discover the nature of marriage and thereafter we shall talk about marital love and conjugal intimacy.

Excerpt from the book

2. RIGHTS, DUTIES OF THE ENGAGEMENT

Since the engagement is the first decision of two people to bind each other for life, and to examine each other whether they are fitted for each other, they owe each other love, fidelity and frankness. The engaged are permitted manifestations of love. The exchange of caresses forms a positive and essential element of the time of engagement. The greater freedom of intimacy should however not induce the engaged to adopt too quickly the attitude of the future husband and wife. “As long as the bond has not been confirmed by the Church and State, it is not definitive. Hence, though the young people may have become very intimate, sexual intercourse in such a situation is irresponsible. The reason is that it has by its very nature a definitive character. It implies that it is for good. The fact that the child is on the way does not however create the obligation for the man to marry the girl. The father remains of course responsible for the child and its mother, especially under economicaspects.
