The purpose of the study was to observe play based learning activities and give comments, interact with learners and find out the activities they enjoy most and why, interact with parents and teachers to find out their views about child’s play and based on the findings, come out with a conclusion.
This paper is in three chapters, chapter one introduces the paper, chapter two looks at the review of literature on the key concepts of play, chapter three entails the observation and findings on play based learning activities, and finally, conclusions drawn by the researcher based on his findings.

Excerpt from the Book
What is play?
Play as a concept has always been difficult to define but easy to identify. In English and English (1958), play is described as an activity that is pursued voluntarily devoid of ulterior purpose and that on the whole it is done with the sole purpose of enjoyment or expectation of enjoyment.
Child’s play if incorporated into learning has numerous benefits for the learner, these include; making a plan and follow through, learning from trial and error, using imagination and problem-solving skills, applying concepts of quantity, science and movement to real life, reasoning in a logical, analytical manner by acting on objects, communicating with classmates and negotiate differences in points of view, deriving satisfaction from their own accomplishments and a lot more.
Play, despite its importance, has not been accepted by some stakeholders of early childhood education. Some people have negative perceptions about play, hence forming misconceptions. Some view play as a waste of resources, and if that is the case they will rather choose to educate their wards themselves at their various homes. This is a misconception, and if public sensitization on the awareness of the benefits of play is championed, such misconceptions will be taking away from the minds of such people.
