La "Leyenda Negra" de Francisco Villa

Francisco Villa es uno de los protagonistas de la revolución mexicana. Pero también sigue siendo una persona muy controversa y borrosa. En México por muchas partes Villa se celebra como un héroe mexicano. Esta narrativa también se encuentra en las escuelas mexicanas. Pero ya durante la vida de Villa existía una imagen más oscura y negativa de Villa que hasta hoy en día es reproducida y amplificada. Tanto la imagen idealizada, como la imagen oscurecida se establecieron a través del cine, la historia oral, mitos, fuentes escritas y la prensa. En este trabajo me quiero enfocar en la imagen negativa que también se ha considerado una “leyenda negra”.

Francisco Villa is one of the leading figures of the mexican revolution. But he has also been a very polarising person. In Mexico he is widly celebrated as a national hero, also in schools and public institutions. However, even back when he was still alive, there was always a negative image drawn of him, that still exists today in many variations. Both, the idealized and the almost diabolic representations of Villa where spread through the cinema, oral history, miths, written sources and the media overall. In this essay I will explore the negative image that has been drawn of Villa and which has also been called a "leyenda negra".
