The aim of this paper is to investigate Pete Edochie's use of proverbs and its cultural implications in terms of drawing out the cultural values and assessing them within the ambits of the culture portrayed in the films. Using a number of purposely selected proverbs, this paper hermeneutically explores the relevance of proverbs in terms of projecting the values inherent in them.
Film is one medium which project the material or non-material culture of a given people. With reference to the non-material culture, language is central to the projection of dramatic action in film. Particularly, proverbs which are a vital part of language are globally recognised as potent expressions of a peoples culture used to articulate a peoples norms of existence. In Nollywood, proverbs have been deployed to perform certain functions. Pete Edochie, one of the many household names in the Nollywood industry who has featured in over 300 movies since he made his debut appearance is widely recognised for his creative use of proverbs.
