Excerpt from the Book

Rationale of the Study

Academic performance is very important for it reflect how the students do well in class, how they perform the academic exams and activities, pass the project on time and how they come to school punctually. Measuring academic performance of the boarding students is quiet challenging since it is affected by some factors like the boarding house preferences and the kind of environment in which they lived. Some are unaware that there are factors that may hinder or attain good academic performance.

The students who live in the neighboring towns and provinces needs a temporary residence such as boarding house. As observed, there were problems encountered by students living in a boarding house such as house rules, presence of landlord/landlady, the use or availability of house facilities like comfort room, bathroom, television, electrical outlet, water supply and the safety that their boarding house has to offer. There are many preferences that the students must consider in choosing the boarding house. These preferences are significant for the students because it can greatly affect or influence their academic performance in school.

What is the central research question?

The research seeks to determine whether boarding house preferences can significantly predict the academic performance of the students.

Which scientific method was utilized?

The researchers employed a quantitative, descriptive-correlational research method, using a survey questionnaire and statistical analyses like Pearson r and regression analysis.

What are the core environmental factors analyzed for boarders?

The study evaluates four main domains: proximity to the school, the imposition of house rules, the presence of a landlord/landlady, and the availability of house facilities.

What is the main finding regarding academic performance?
