This essay will discuss issues that students face and challenges during the phases of puberty. In most international schools, most teachers are challenged with behaviour problems, and understanding the home environment of that particular student is imperative in building channels of communication that are effective between the school and parents and being able to guide and support them continuously.

Teaching in an International Baccalaureate school will involve teaching students from both the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) where students come from different nationalities, cultures, and socio, economic backgrounds, teaching them to be tolerant and respectful towards each other are important.

As educators, we need to be adults and communicate effectively ensuring that as professionals we seek what is best and right for our students, by constantly guiding, reminding, and supporting them to achieve their goals, outcomes, and objectives. Students can either fully engage in activities or be completely isolated from the rest of their peers in the classroom, it is important for a teacher to reinforce various instructional approaches and strategies to improve their educational setting for them to achieve their academic results.

Excerpt from the Book

Three issues that students might encounter during puberty

Every child in your classroom will have challenges to face during puberty, understanding their educational, and emotional needs are essential to provide adequate support, motivation and encouragement, according to Understood (2021) which explains that: "Puberty isn't physically different for kids who learn and think differently. Some learning and thinking differences can make dealing with the changes of puberty harder. Kids may feel doubly different when going through puberty" (para. 1). Reflecting on these three statements, students in your classroom may struggle with different attitudes and perspectives, and you as a teacher might notice a lack of motivation and encouragement.

An article clearly shared by Understood (2021) suggested the following:

● Old behaviour may spark new reactions,

● Body change may mean medication,

● Kids may need help with hygiene,

● Sexual activity may be extra confusing, and

● Feeling double different for them to cope with overall (Understood, 2021).
