Excerpt from the book

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB PERFORMANCE AND WORK-LIFE-BALANCE

People have different roles to fulfill, be it in their personal life or their work life. When these roles do not conflict with each other, a WLB is given (Rini et al., 2020, p. 144). Imbalance can lead to a decrease in job performance and weaken the psychological constitution of individuals (idib.). However, it is not WLB alone that is responsible for good job performance. Important to mention is also the stress level at work and the provided safety and health (Rini et al., 2020, p. 145).

Job performance includes a variety of factors. Too much workload, unstructured company environments or the absence of any gratitude are just some examples that influence job performance. However, having provided all the necessary sources, the employee’s work leads to higher job performance (Rini et al., 2020, p. 146). How complex a job is, is just one out of many more indicators for job performance (Zorec et al., 2021, p. 50).

Jaharuddin and Zainol (2019) highlight the importance of support from the company to increase employees WLB. Consequently, job performance tends to improve as well (p. 107). They go even further when explaining the effect on the country level: not every individual has the privilege to choose the job according to personal interests or passions. Perceiving the job only as means of getting paid leads to demotivation, a low performance is therefore predictable and will lead to poor company performance as well as to a worse economic status of the whole country in the end (Jaharuddin & Zainol, 2019, p. 107).
