Excerpt from the Book
The development of Guy Montag's critical view on his society
Guy Montag is a typical character, who utterly represents what the regime aims for (James & Mendlesohn, 2012:49). He lives with his wife, Mildred, also an adequate adaption of the society (Bradbury, 1954:57-62).
Furthermore, Montag is not capable of thinking independently, but only obeying orders (Bradbury, 1954:118). He works as a fireman and instead of extinguishing fire, he sets fire in order to destroy the books (Bradbury, 1954:46).
Summarized, Guy Montag is a round character who lives as a dedicated and putatively content conformist, but after meeting Clarisse he experiences his catharsis, in which he realizes that he has been living a life as if it was a bucket list which provides no real life quality for him anymore now that she instructs him how a treasured reality should be like.
