Abstract or Introduction
The primary aim of this investigation was to assess the impact of the problem-solving approach on the mathematical achievement of senior high school students. The research utilized an explanatory sequential mixed method design, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative elements. To evaluate the effects of the problem-solving approach, the study administered two tests - a pre-test and a post-test - and subsequently employed a t-test for data analysis. The study's population consisted of senior high school students in Tamale, the capital town of Northern region of Ghana, with a sample size of 440 students. The results of this study demonstrated that the problem-solving method had a positive influence on students' mathematical achievement. The findings underscored a significant disparity between the conventional teaching approach and the problem-solving approach when it comes to teaching mathematics at the senior high school level. As a result of these findings, the study recommends the promotion of problem-solving techniques among mathematics educators. It advocates for regular training, workshops, and seminars to enhance teachers' understanding and implementation of problem-based learning.
