The Changes due to rising Digitalization are immense – for both economic and social perspectives. Digital technologies have profoundly transformed people's daily lives in the last years, especially in organizations. Leadership is needed to introduce change and innovation. Therefore managers are focusing on recreating the structure of a company from old command structures to new ways of leading techniques. In this connection, managers not only need to focus on communication among one another, but they also need to change how organizational members work and collaborate. However, when the leadership style does not align with the digital transformation or when the strategy is ineffective, problems may emerge, which could impact the organization in negative ways. Sooner or later, every company has to adapt to the new industrial revolution. Therefore industry 4.0 came out as a result of digital transformation in the corporate world.

Since there is no concrete definition of how to become a digital leader, the question is: what skills are demanded required of today's digital leaders? Leadership in present times is a balancing act and requires a specific set of skills. To reach those skills, a german author developed the VOPA + model for managers to drive success that reaps the rewards for the leader, organization, and workforce. The Model consists of four areas: "Vernetzung", "Offenheit", "Agilität" and "Partizipation". The areas stand for networking, openness, agility and participation. All four terms are linked to "trust", one more field in the middle of the model.
