In spite the originality and the highly rhetorical features of Arabic language; Arabic novel lacks the originality and particularity of Arabic-Eastern soul. Arabic poetry was a part and parcel of the originality of Arabic language; however, Arabic novel came too late as it appeared as a reaction to the Arabic interacts with Western culture through colonialism, missions, and Western cultural impact. That is why, the present article aims at defining the major differences between Modern Arabic novel that appeared at the beginning of the 20th century and the Contemporary Arabic novel that appeared at the beginning of the 21st century. The main aim of this article is to assert that the contemporary Arabic novel of nowadays is not the Modern Arabic novel of Naguib Mahfouz, Heikal, and Tawfiq al-Hakim.

The main differences between Modern Arabic Novel and Contemporary Arabic Novel:

The Arab World had a great cultural contact with West in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is credited as marking the change in Arabic literature as a whole towards modern Arabic literature. As a result of this contact, Classical Arabic forms were gradually replaced by Western ones. Genres such as plays, novels, and short tales were rising to prominence. Although the precise date of this literary reformation is unknown, the birth of modern Arabic literature was "inseparable "from the Nahda, also known as the Arab Renaissance. With one of his works, The Researcher's Source in the Science of Criticism, Aleppine writer Qustaki al-Himsi (1858 1941) is credited with establishing contemporary Arabic literary criticism

Shukri Al Madi describes the Arabic contemporary novel as "the New Arabic Novel" in a clear hint that the Contemparary Arabic novel is not the same as Modern Arabic novel in spite of both of them share some features and technical aspects. Alkabir Aldadisy defines that the contemporary Arabic novel as the novels that resulted from the Arabic crisis and events occurred in the last three decades. He adds that the American Invasion of Iraq and the Arabic spring are the major drive for the contemporary Arabic novel.
