This study investigates how Africa may exploit the tourist industry for global competition while harnessing it in the process. The growing importance of tourism and the recent spotlight it has received, on the one hand, and the absence of adequate coverage of tourism-growth nexus research in Africa in general, have given birth to the brainchild of the entire investigation. The inquiry uses the proposed competitiveness model, which is based on a review of leading international tourism destination development and marketing strategies, to identify important "best practice" trends and destination competitiveness success indicators.
