The objective of the study is to assess the existing level of stress among nursing students before calisthenics exercises intervention by computing pre-test, to evaluate the post-test level of stress among nursing students after calisthenic exercises intervention, to determine the effectiveness of calisthenic exercises on stress among nursing students and to find out the association between post level of stress in nursing students with their selected demographic variables.

The mean post stress scores of students will be significantly lower than the pre-test stress scores by paired t-test at 0.01. There will be significant association between the post-test levels of stress among nursing students with their selected demographic variables by chi-square test (x2) at 0.01 level of significance

A quasi study was conducted and first year BSc nursing students studying in a college were selected as sample. The sample size was 60 and Non-purposive sampling technique was used perceived stress scale was used to assess levels of stress before and after administration of calisthenics consistency of tool was tested by Bach’s alpha1-36 for low stress 37-72 for moderate stress 73-108 for high levels of stress respectively.

According to the World's Health Organisation sickness caused by stress by 2020 will rank among top causes of disability. Today's students' academic achievement and mental wellness are usually negatively impacted by the intense environment that characterises nursing schools. Research from the UK and India indicate that stress levels are rising among nursing students. Researchers from Brazil looked at depression and confidence among pupils in first-, second-, especially 3rd year students of nursing graduates.

Research Objectives and Themes

The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of calisthenic exercises in reducing stress levels among first-year B.Sc. nursing students at a selected college in Bengaluru. The research investigates the impact of a structured 30-minute daily calisthenics intervention on students' stress scores, comparing pre-test and post-test data to determine the viability of exercise as a practical, low-cost strategy for stress management in an academic nursing environment.

  • Pre-intervention assessment of stress levels among nursing students.
  • Evaluation of the impact of regular calisthenics on stress reduction.
  • Correlation between demographic variables and post-intervention stress outcomes.
  • Development of a feasible, non-pharmacological coping strategy for academic nursing stress.

INTRODUCTION

The absence of illnesses or other impairments is not the only indicator of health, according to the World Health Organisation. It also includes mental and social well-being. This implies that diseases in people might result from mental, physical, or psychic problems. In modern society, which is expanding quickly and experiencing a rise in expectations, stress appears to have a significant role in disease on set and functional limitations across the age spectrum.

What are the major themes explored in the research?

The research explores the prevalence of academic and clinical stress in nursing, the physiological and psychological benefits of calisthenics, and demographic influences on student stress levels.

What is the core research question being addressed?

The core research question asks whether a regular, non-invasive calisthenic intervention can significantly lower stress levels in nursing students compared to their baseline pre-test scores.

Which scientific methodology was utilized?

The study employed a quasi-experimental, pre-test/post-test research design using a sample of 60 first-year B.Sc. nursing students, with data collection via the Perceived Stress Scale.

What does the main body of the work cover?

It covers theoretical backgrounds on stress, a literature review of relevant global studies, detailed methodology of the intervention, data analysis of stress scores, and a discussion of the observed reductions post-intervention.

Which key terms characterize this research?

Key terms include Calisthenics, Nursing Students, Academic Stress, Stress Management, and Perceived Stress Scale.

How does the age of student participants affect the stress findings?

The results indicated a statistically significant association (<0.001) between age groups and post-intervention stress levels, suggesting age is a relevant demographic factor in stress management.

What role does exercise play in the study's conclusions?

The study concludes that regular calisthenic intervention is an effective, practical strategy for reducing mental tension and improving the overall well-being of nursing students.
