Excerpt from the Book
Application of the Google voicemail by the second language learners
Google voice mail is described as the telephony service offering forwarding of calls and voicemail services and text messaging and international calls for the users of the Google accounts. This channel has been used by different students in the current world. However, it involves the improvement of the technology whereby the computers and smart phone as used for the registration of the e-mails. From the time this means of communication was introduced in the year 2009, numerous second language learners have observed its impacts. According to Keln and Greenfiel (2014), this means of communication is effective to the second language learners in that, some of the shy students and those who do not have confidence in themselves can now get courage through the forwarded messages and hence discuss effectively in their future discussions. For instance, one of the students from Kel’s class indicated that; “I participated more in the electronic discussions as compared to the oral classes”. This is because, Google voicemail is used by the learners for the writing aims but is not considered to be the same as the writing in academic terms whereby the students or the learners can write in the educational environment to improve their learning processes. Additionally, as Tess (2013) indicates, this service has also provided chance for the users to regulate the messages that are of best interest to them. For instance, the users of the Google voicemail can block the calls or the messages that they do not want thus free and peaceful environment for the second language learners will be guaranteed.
