Social Media Campaign and Awareness Messages against Child Trafficking

The social media have different campaigns and messages against human trafficking. Social media are the conveyor, mediator, intermediary or translator between the public and the policy making elites i.e. government, private sector, business actors, opinion leaders and the general public especially grassroots citizens who may not readily interpret policies and agenda of the government. The social media are used to interpret and convey the information to the public in a very clear, unambiguous manner. Child trafficking hampers morality and raises the level of violence in any nation that finds it entrenched in its fabrics.

The immersion of social media in anti – child trafficking crusade cut across all aspects of the menace. Social media in their dual role in child trafficking eradication not only advances public awareness about the child trafficking, its causes, consequences and possible remedies but also probes and reports frequencies of child trafficking to the action of anti-child trafficking agencies like National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP).

There are various ways that social media campaigns and awareness are used for the fight against child trafficking. Social media serve hold government and perpetrators accountable for their actions and inactions. In this direction, social media can help prosecute the actions of perpetrators by investigating and frequently reporting the rates of child trafficking. Social media as independent media execute their roles even more proficiently than the judiciary, executive and legislative groups by exposing cases and syndicates of child trafficking.
