The origin of the domestic security challenges of a country can be traced from the internal and external quarters. India and Afghanistan, the two immediate neighbors, pose a conventional or external threat to the stability of Pakistan. Furthermore, global powers like United States and Russia also threaten the stability of Pakistan due to their changing interests in the global order setting. On the other hand, internal threats to Pakistan are due to the domestic political, ethnic, sectarian, extremism and Jihadi culture prevalent in the country. It is often carried out by external activities. According to the official nationalism of Pakistan, the country was created on the basis of the two-nation theory, which clearly states that the Indian Muslims are a separate and distinct community for the Hindu nation.

Excerpt from the Book
3.2.1 Security Threats Arising from India
After emerging from British colonial rule in 1947, the Hindu majority state known as “India” and Muslim majority state called “Pakistan”, become rivals of each other. Since then, a series of historical and geopolitical events have complicated the interaction between both the countries because of which they have fought four wars. Ever since not only both the countries are in a state of continuous enmity, but also they engage in a nuclear arms race from the last two decades. Both the countries share same cultural, linguistic, geographical and economic ties, but on the contrary the relationship between both the countries is worse. Calm and smooth relations between both countries are very necessary in order to achieve peace in the region of South Asia. The global community has emphasized on the need to establish trustworthy and pleasant relations between the two neighboring states. Looking into history, one realizes that ever since the partition, both the countries are stuck in resolving their disputes that have arisen over time, whether it is Kashmir Dispute, water sharing dispute, or military conflict. Lately, the issue of surgical strikes has aggravated the tensions between both countries. In the succeeding paragraphs, the details of the security conflicts between both countries are discussed.
