Strategic analysis tools play a key role in evaluating the internal and external conditions of an organization and identifying its strong and weak points. These helps organizations understand the competitive context, establish effective strategies to achieve their objectives, and adapt to changes in the environment (Fuertes et al., 2020). SWOT analysis helps identify strengths, such as EA brand image and a deep portfolio of games, PESTEL analysis evaluates macro-environment variables like changes in legislation and advances in technologies. EA could apply the SWOT technique to reveal strength of its brand and the opportunity offered by new gaming platforms such as virtual reality leading to investment in VR games and increased sales and market share (Puyt et al., 2020). Porter’s Five Forces framework enables EA to differentiate the firm’s strategies into various relevant areas such as content exclusivity and superior gaming experiences for consumers (Ali & Anwar, 2021). Strategic analysis tools are important for organizations in order to give the right context of the business environment and contribute in making the right strategic decisions, strengthening the competitiveness, developing and improving the market understanding, strategic planning and creating a solid ground for achieving competitive advantages that would help EA to become and remain successfully established in the continuously growing and highly competitive video gaming industry.

Excerpt from the Book
2. Analyzing Resources and Capabilities
The resource-based view (RBV) looks at the internal resources and capabilities of an organization analyzing how they can be used to create and sustain a competitive advantage. VRIO analysis is a tool used to evaluate these resources and capabilities based on four criteria. The four VRIO analysis criteria include: Value, Rarity, Imitability, and Organization (Azeem et al., 2021).
Value determines if the resource/capital enables the firm to capitalize on the opportunities or eliminate/avoid threats. In the case of examining resource or capability uniqueness, Rarity questions whether the resource or capability is experienced by only a few rivaling firms. Imitability measures the extent to which the resource or capability already in place would cost competitors to emulate Susanto et al., 2023). Organization scrutiny is done about whether the company has the right structure to harness the resource or capability. The process of carrying out a VRIO analysis involves identification of all the resources and capabilities; evaluation of their importance in managing opportunities and threats; analysis of their relative scarcity among competitors; establishing the feasibility of imitation by other firms; and verifying whether the organization has the right structure, processes and pro-organizational cultural environment that would enable the exploitation of these resources and capabilities fully (Law, 2023).
