The paper aims to discuss about the case study profile and assessment of two global companies, Alarmlogic and Amazon. An evaluative and thematical comparison and ranking will underscore the need to determine and compare the website functionalities of these two global companies. Globalization is a phenomenon worldwide that affects each individual, businesses and organizations, whether directly or indirectly. This paper supposits the argument for adaptation to globalization and website improvements, as benefits outweigh drawbacks for these two firms due to intense competition. To understand globalization as a phenomenon, Giddens (1991) defines globalization as "the intensification of social relations throughout the world, linking distant localities in such a way that local happenings are formed as a result of events that occur many miles away and vice versa”. According to Held, Mcgrew, Goldblatt & Perraton (1999), the four elements to justify globalization must address, extension, intensity, celerity and impact. We can perceive how the technical functionalities of these two companies can address the global challenges posed to these globalized companies.

Excerpt from the Book
Functionality of Alarmlogic Website
It is necessary for Alarmlogic (alarmlogic.com.au), already with a website, to redevelop not just the existing contents, but to improve on the following functions
It is a simple website that is more of a one generation system from the 90’s. IT is basically information-based with little interaction. There is no list where products can be generated, however the product listings are shown on the website with little information about each individual product though. It does seem that only specialized people in the field will understand the products and their titles.
There is however no shopping basket or search engine optimization function in this website. Thus, there cannot be any real-time queries or purchases done online. This is purely a commercial website that is asynchronous (one-way). It is not workable in a 2-way interaction.
To get in contact with the customer or sales representatives there is an enquiry form outlet (http://www.alarmlogic.com.au/contact.htm). In order to get an added value reply, there is a requirement to fill in information about your own company details and data pertaining to the product requirements and needs, such as browse type, system, system type (CCTV, local monitor, alarms, remote controlled sensors etc.). Alternatively, if one does not want to go through the hassle of filling in a form, a simple email will also suffice.
