The summum really is life itself, nothing can be added to it. Out of its bosom emerges the infinity of diversity. In it all diversity remains united, however diverse it may be. If the manifestations of the one as the many cannot be solved satisfactorily, a return to the one or the memory of the one is necessary to recreate the unity which is still latent in diversity and in which it can remerge and reintegrate and effect individual, social and global integrity. The Supreme One, Summum Unum, call it God, Verbum, Way, Truth or Life reigns supremely over the diversity which it has produced. The rediscovery of life as the universal integrator can be a supreme cultural panacea, simple because all comes from it and is contained in it. Nothing that lives is outside of it. Everything converges in it, has its place in it. The relearning of the way of life itself, the retuning to it naturally integrates the diversity it has produced. All diversity has been, is and will be integrated in life. The more culture comes to the fore, the more life must be affirmed as the unifier of cultural diversity. True diversity management consists in the appropriate management of the one, its effective leverage, because diversity only is its outer appearance.

Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)

  • The DIVERSITY OF LIFE: This chapter introduces the central theme of the essay, exploring the interconnectedness of life and its diverse forms. It emphasizes the dual principle of diversification and unification, which provides a foundation for comprehending and managing diversity.
  • Life, Forms and „Conduits”: This chapter delves deeper into the relationship between life and its forms, emphasizing the role of “conduits” as carriers of life. It illustrates how the flow of life sustains and nourishes these forms, highlighting the essential connection between the source and its manifestations.
  • The Disconnect Between Form and Substance: This chapter examines the disconnect between form and substance, arguing that forgetting the common source leads to a depletion of the flow of life. This disconnection contributes to the challenge of diversity management and the perception of differences as threats.
  • The Original Diversity Sin: This chapter explores the “original diversity sin” – the oblivion of the connection to the common source. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing the sameness underlying diversity and the consequences of forgetting this connection.
  • Diversity Conflicts: This chapter examines diversity conflicts as a result of the oblivion of the common source. It highlights the destructive nature of these conflicts and argues that their resolution lies in recognizing the underlying unity of life.
  • Reconnecting to the Source: This chapter proposes a solution to diversity conflicts, advocating for a reconnection to the common source. This reconnection involves seeing through diversity and recognizing the one life behind it, leading to a reintegration of diversity.
  • The Wrong Way: This chapter explores the “wrong way” – a path that separates from the source of life. It describes this path as one of division, exclusivity, and ultimately, a lack of continuity.
  • The Right Way: This chapter outlines the “right way” – a path of reconnection to the source of life. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing the interdependence of life and its diverse forms and the consequences of choosing the wrong path.
