This study aims to analyze how Tunisia employs military diplomacy as a strategic tool to strengthen its international position while addressing domestic and regional security challenges. Since the Arab Spring, Tunisia has increasingly relied on international military cooperation to balance political instability, economic constraints, and external threats.
The paper examines three key dimensions: Tunisia’s management of international partnerships with actors such as the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union; its participation in peacekeeping missions like MINUSMA; and its involvement in joint military exercises such as African Lion.
The findings suggest that while military diplomacy enhances Tunisia’s global visibility and access to resources, it also creates dependencies and strains national capacities. The study positions Tunisia as a relevant case for understanding how middle powers navigate contemporary security dynamics.
