Ironically, the family that owns Walmart is among the wealthiest families in the U.S., benefiting from the poverty of their customers. Furthermore, Walmart, a multinational chain and so-called hypermarket, is known for pushing smaller stores out of business because they cannot compete. In a town shaped by poverty, only companies like Walmart remain profitable, which highlights the dire economic situation in Castle Rock.
During the argument about their addictions – food and cigarettes – Ray says: “’That off-brand. Premium Harmony, they’re called.’ They taste like homemade shit, but all right.
