This report was written by the author of this study, acting as the operations and quality consultant for the board of directors of Samsung Electronics. The objective was to review and evaluate the company’s operations and quality management processes based on relevant academic literature, theories, principles, and current issues. It begins with an overview of the company, including its mission and vision.
The report highlighted the major operations management challenges currently facing Samsung Electronics and discussed three important principles of quality management. It also analyzed the impact of productivity, workflow, and quality on organizational competitiveness. Furthermore, it examined Samsung’s key operational strategies and their relationship with supply chain network design.
A balanced scorecard was presented to support performance monitoring, control, and continuous improvement. The report also discussed the role of management information systems and ICT applications in supporting strategic goals and improving operational processes. In addition, it analyzed appropriate methods and technologies, including artificial intelligence, for optimizing operations.
The report further applied the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) as suitable tools for project planning, scheduling, control, and evaluation.
Finally, the report presented key findings and recommendations and evaluated the role of project leadership in managing organizational change and stakeholder expectations. The main challenge identified was global competition, particularly as Samsung relies on the Android operating system, which is also used by competitors. Therefore, Samsung should adopt more innovative strategies, develop greater technological independence, and focus on areas such as 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT). Improving product quality is also essential for customer satisfaction. Strong leadership can help address internal and external challenges, with transformational, transactional, and team leadership recommended for Samsung’s operational activities. Finally, Samsung should improve inventory management and supplier and customer relationships through the Just-in-Time (JIT) approach.
