The purpose of this research was to investigate the combined influence of the level of mental construal and the transactional-transformational leadership model on trust in the leader, on loyalty towards the leader, on employee motivation, and on respect towards the employee. In order to test the combined effect of temporal distance and leadership style, a study among 100 subjects has been conducted. A 2x2 between-subjects, factorial design with temporal distance and leadership style as the independent variables and trust, motivation, loyalty and respect as the dependent variables has been applied. Although for trust, loyalty and respect a small interaction effect could be found, it was not significant. It can thus be followed that there is no interaction effect of temporal distance and leadership style for the above- mentioned dependent variables. The non-existence of the effect could be due to additional unmeasured influences on the participants by other forms of psychological distance, the missing work experience of the subjects or that the homogenous sample did not allow for sufficient variation. These and other possible reasons are discussed in this paper. However, with regard to possible limitations of this study, future research is recommended in order to fully close this research gap.

Zielsetzung und Themenschwerpunkte (Objectives and Key Themes)
This research investigates the combined influence of temporal distance and leadership style on various employee attitudes, including trust, motivation, loyalty, and respect. The study aims to address the gap in existing literature by examining the connection between mental construal levels and effective leadership approaches.
- The combined influence of temporal construal theory and transactional-transformational leadership model on employee attitudes.
- The relationship between mental construal levels and different leadership styles.
- The impact of leadership styles on trust, motivation, loyalty, and respect in employees.
- The potential limitations of the research findings and the need for further research in this area.
Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
- Chapter 1: Introduction This chapter sets the stage for the research by outlining the importance of leadership in organizational studies and highlighting the gap in the existing literature regarding the interplay between mental construal and leadership styles.
- Chapter 2: Leadership theories This chapter introduces two influential leadership types: transactional and transformational leadership, explaining their characteristics and relevance in business settings.
- Chapter 3: Construal level theory This chapter delves into the theory of mental construal, focusing on the temporal construal theory and its potential implications for understanding individual perceptions and responses.
- Chapter 4: Hypothesis development This chapter outlines the specific hypotheses for the research, connecting the theoretical frameworks discussed in the previous chapters to the chosen dependent variables (trust, motivation, loyalty, and respect).
- Chapter 5: Method This chapter explains the methodology employed in the study, detailing the design, procedure, and measures used to collect and analyze data.
- Chapter 6: Results This chapter presents the findings of the empirical analysis, including manipulation checks and hypothesis testing, providing insights into the relationships explored in the study.
Schlüsselwörter (Keywords)
The research focuses on the intersection of leadership styles, temporal construal theory, and employee attitudes, specifically trust, motivation, loyalty, and respect. Key concepts explored include transactional and transformational leadership, mental construal levels, and the interaction between these factors on employee behavior.
