4.2. Major disadvantages of globalization
A fundamental source of conflict, arising principally from the globalization process, is the variety of speed and intensity of these processes in different categories that are relevant to the lives of people. A major disadvantage of globalization is that the rich regions or countries have become richer and the poor have become poorer. Globalization has opened the possibility for companies to outsource jobs in areas where the work capacity is much cheaper compared to their home countries. Outsourcing is an advantages for the managers, the investors and the people in the countries where the outsourced jobs are build up again, but for the people whose jobs are outsourced it is a major disadvantage. A major problem with outsourcing is that the power remains in the home country of the company and the profits are not equally distributed.
Also globalization can lead to huge financial problems that in the end can have an effect on all areas of the economy. For example the global financial crises of 2008 was at the beginning just a crises in the US mortgage market, but has become at the end a huge financial crisis affecting the whole world. The bankruptcy of the Investment Bank “Lehmann Brothers” has lead to a major dropdown in the world financial markets. Indices like the German DAX dropped down to historical lows.
