Moreover, internal analysis is noteworthy to identify the quality of McDonald’s corporation and their core competences act as distinctiveness.

MacDonald’s is the top and renowned fast food corporation in the fast food industry. About 1.8 million people are working in 34,000 restaurants in the world. Richard and Maurice McDonald established the business as a restaurant in 1940 in United States. Afterwards, McDonald’s was opened as a single restaurant in Woolwich located in London in 1974. At present, about 97,000 people are working in 1200 restaurants throughout the UK and Northern Ireland (McDonald's, 2016).

EXTERNAL ANALYSIS OF THE FAST FOOD INDUSTRY IN UNITED KINGDOM

PESTEL is the most important analytical tool for external analysis of any industry or corporate company or business organisation (Yuksel, 2012). Basically, the external analysis depends on several environmental factors. The macro environment of the fast food industry in United Kingdom is influenced enormously by PESTEL (attached in appendix 1). There are numerous firms in the fast food industry in United Kingdom. McDonald’s, KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, Pizza Hut, various Subway are the most common firms within the fast food industry in United Kingdom. Each firm generate their own key drivers based on their business strategies model. However, every firm follows particular strategies to attract the consumers to their own firm to run their business successfully along with profit. It is also noted that, fast food industry is demanding rather than traditional restaurant due to quick service and ready to eat where consumers save their time. Hendry et al. (2015) reported that recently fast food industry customised their menu (not using Trans Fatty acids) to avoid dropping out the number of consumers in their industry due to lifestyle diseases for instances Coronary Disease, Obesity, and Diabetic Mellitus. Moreover, lowering the food price could be adopted in term of recession of the economy or employment rate. Therefore, fast food industry would be stable and further market growth could be feasible with the changes of the population age group.

POWER

Porter (2008) discovered five forces (attached in appendix 2) what can analyse the entire fast food industry and identify the main source, who actually hold the main power and control the market situation. The fast food industry hold much power rather than the supplier and consumers hold bargaining power, while that is reasonable.
