Zielsetzung und Themenschwerpunkte (Objectives and Key Themes)
This research aims to identify and analyze factors that affect the effectiveness of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system in local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The study focuses on how NGOs track project performance and the effectiveness of their M&E systems. The objective is to understand the impact of different factors on the effectiveness of these systems.
- The effectiveness of M&E systems in local NGOs.
- The role of tools and techniques in M&E systems.
- The impact of budgetary allocation on M&E system effectiveness.
- The importance of technical capability and training for M&E staff.
- The influence of various factors on the overall performance of M&E systems.
Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
Chapter one introduces the background of the study, focusing on the role of NGOs in Addis Ababa and highlighting the research questions, objectives, and hypothesis of the study. It also details the significance, scope, and limitations of the research, including the definition of key terms and the study's organization.
Chapter two delves deeper into the concept of M&E systems, discussing the different types of information they provide and examining various theories relevant to program theory, theory of change, evaluation theory, and effective M&E systems. This chapter explores factors affecting M&E system effectiveness, such as tool and technique selection, budgetary allocation, technical capabilities of M&E staff, and the importance of training and technical support. It also includes a review of empirical literature and presents a conceptual framework for the study.
Chapter three outlines the research design and methodology. It provides a description of the study area, elaborates on the research design, defines the target population, and explains the sampling strategy employed. The chapter further details data collection tools and techniques, including pilot testing of the research instrument, data analysis and presentation methods, and ethical considerations involved in the research.
Chapter four presents the results and discussion of the study, covering the validity and reliability of the data. It analyzes the use of tools and techniques in the M&E system, examines the budget allocation process, and evaluates the technical capabilities of M&E staff. The chapter includes a multiple regression equation to further analyze the findings.
