Reading in a foreign language involve readers into a different culture and offers them a new experience and new conversational situations which help them in language learning and improving the four language skills reading, speaking, listening and writing. The improvement of reading skills will facilitate the development of all other abilities.

Excerpt from the Book
Some principles on teaching reading to adults
Teaching English is a complex process, particularly when the individual is an adult. Adults learning to read struggle with emotional factors like motivation, fear of failure and commitment. Most of the Individuals who have struggled with reading have tried to hide their lack of proficiency from teachers, friends and family. Reading comprehension is the course of constructing meaning from the read passage. To make this possible an individual needs to decode and also interpret the meaning. The sentences and the phrases shall be read fluently so that the meaning isn’t lost. A message can be understood even without face to face communication with the writer, the comprehension of a passage deals with what the reader might understand from it using the past experiences and the previous knowledge. It is not important the purpose of reading whether it is for fun or work the goal should always be comprehension in which the reader engages and connects with the passage. Adults need to use strategies to accomplish reading comprehension because the purpose of reading is comprehension. Readers understand better when they know the basic concepts of the texts and when they can figure out the meaning or the new words from the reading process. Adults who can not connect the concepts with their past experiences, with their prior knowledge and with the new concepts, comprehension suffers. The practice of each of the principles mentioned below alphabetic, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension makes the reading process effective. The letters combinations, decoding, the quick ability to recognize and understand texts are the main contributors to adequate comprehension.
