Germanic colonization most probably spread from the area that would later become the kingdom of Kent, which is the first kingdom specifically named in historical sources. Furthermore, its initiation seems to have begun with the fighting under Hengest and Horsa, as the two most important tribal leaders of the Germanic tribes, against the Celtic king Vortigern. Henghest is specifically named as the first king from 455 AD, after the death of his brother Horsa. However the kingdom itself is not specifically named. Admittedly, in the Kentish kingdom, as the first kingdom, there seems to have been no distribution at first between the different Germanic tribes taking part in the invasion. Later on Jutes are mentioned as the main group of settlers in the kingdom of Kent.
