The main objective of this research proposal is to explore the perceptions of President George W. Bush, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on the creation of the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. This research aims to use Operational Code analysis, specifically the Verbs In Context System method of content analysis, to assess the schema of these three US leaders in relation to the controversial USA PATRIOT Act. The study seeks to determine whether the perceptions of these leaders reflect a consistent pattern of political belief that might have influenced the creation of similar anti-terrorism laws globally. Key themes explored in the research proposal include: * The influence of political leaders' perceptions on the legislative process, specifically in the context of the USA PATRIOT Act. * The role of schema theory and Operational Code analysis in understanding political decision-making. * The impact of 9/11 on the creation of anti-terrorism legislation and its implications for global security. * The importance of analyzing the language of political leaders to identify their beliefs and motivations. * The potential for Operational Code analysis to provide insight into the creation and implementation of international policy.Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
