Excerpt from the Book
Introduction
Lesson planning is essential when thinking of activities to be explored in the literacy classroom. In any subject, whether we teach, English, Biology, Psychology or Mathematics, we are still concluding transdisciplinary learning and promoting literacy by asking questions related to texts shared.
Considering what needs to be done to implement differentiation, or execute a range of instructional activities to prepare students for the 21st century as outlined by Stauffer (2020) is important. How teachers would consider the perfect writing activity for their students and then consider their participation, as teachers we need to reflect in our classrooms. Many times we would plan and think that my students will be able to cope with the work presented, and at that very moment, they seem disinterested or do not even want to engage. The best strategies teachers can use are to present the work to them, ask them for ideas on how to move forward, involving them in the process of learning new texts. Through doing this exercise the students feel part of the educational process by sharing their ideas, and opinions, which is equally important to me as an educator. Trying new things and making changes is always advised, to improve on areas of concern and strengths. This could promote collaboration and high levels of engagement as suggested by Ullman (2015); Teaching Channel (2018).
