The specific innovation I analysed in my presentation was the innovation of hybrid cars. The technology of hybrid cars combines an internal combustion engine and one or several electrical engines, which is or are powered by a small battery that recharges itself during driving.

To reflect on my preparations as well as on my delivery of the recorded presentation, I will implement the Gibbs Reflective Cycle. This reflective model uses a six-step approach, which firstly looks at the description. It will further address feelings, an evaluation, an analysis, a conclusion and finally an action plan.

As an innovative sector, I chose the sector of vehicles. The Oxford Dictionary of English explains the etymological background of the word ‘vehicle’. Its origin is Latin, comes from the word ‘vehere’, and its English meaning is ‘to carry’ (Soanes and Persall, 2005). Therefore, a vehicle can be anything that carries either goods or people.

Objectives and Core Topics

This individual essay examines innovation processes and team dynamics within competitive environments, using a case study from the BBC show 'The Apprentice' to analyze causes for failure and propose actionable improvements. The work focuses on identifying why specific innovation attempts fail and how organizational culture and creativity frameworks can be applied to optimize outcomes.

  • Application of innovation taxonomies (Trott; Henderson and Clark) to product development.
  • Evaluation of team creativity through models like Brainstorming, Disney Creativity Strategy, and Amabile's components of creativity.
  • Analysis of organizational culture determinants (Martins and Terblanche) in high-pressure environments.
  • Strategic recommendations for managing innovation including X-Teams and co-creation labs.

Excerpt from the Book

B.3.1 Discussion

The first scene which is shown is the team members diffusively discussing. Laura Moore stands up and says she wants to be the team leader; this gets approved later. Thereupon, the creativity part starts. Joanna shares her idea, but she is immediately interrupted by the group leader. In general, it can be said that the situation is very diffusive and that there is no clear and open discussion taking place. After the unsuccessful group discussion, they split up in two groups and search for inspiration at design works and at the beach in Brighton. In the end the decision is made because it is the only idea and there is no time left (BBC, 2010).

The failure here is obvious, with the lack of two Creativity Enhancers, creativity is blighted. The first mistake can be seen in the lack of performing brainstorming. This basic but effective model consists of four parts.
