The force of international law lies in the power of cooperation amongst state parties; without reciprocal compliance, mutual respect, and enforcement, the greater part of existing conventions more or less become innocuous. As a consequence, international cooperation is a vital element in the fight against climate change because the effects of changes in climate are transboundary and it would be counterproductive for some countries to uphold significantly higher standards than others. This paper focuses on the means through which collaboration between states can aid in the fight against climate change.
