Excerpt from the Book

Engineer licensing (Part-66)

Engineer Licensing (Part-66) of the legislation establishes the standards for acquiring and maintaining aircraft maintenance engineer licenses (Dalkilic, 2017). For me, this regulation is important as it will provide a structured pathway to acquiring crucial qualifications and skills. I can be employed by an EASA Part 145 organisations where I will certify aircraft maintenance or act as support and supervisory staff during base maintenance activities (Jo-bok, Jin and Hee-young, 2017). I can either pursue a B1 engineer job and specialise in Airframe Engineers and Electrical Systems or a B2 Engineer specialising in Avionic Systems. However, Engineer Licensing (Part-66) also poses a challenge to me due to the stringent requirements I will need to me. For instance, the requirements will include passing rigorous exams and gaining a specific amount of practical experience, which is not only challenging but also time-consuming (Puspita et al., 2020).

Furthermore, Part-66 will affect my behavior and career aspiration. For instance, as a B1 certified engineer, I will assume specific responsibilities and will often work on my own to the highest standards. I also understand that working hours might be unsociable as I will be required to work night shift or on weekends. Similarly, Part-66 will require me to have several attributes, including self-reliance, motivation, effective communication skills, self-discipline and good housekeeping and administration skills (Kourousis and Comer, 2018).
