The present study was conducted to investigate the influence of social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability on academic performance of undergraduate students. The sample size of the current study was (N = 165). Data was collected from the public sector universities (University of Sahiwal, UOO, and GCUF); and both male and female students were include in the study. Social Networking Activity Intensity Scale, Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, and Neuroticism subscale of Big Five Inventory were used to measure social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability respectively. SPSS-26 was used for the analysis of data. Results showed that social media has negative correlation with academic performance, and self-esteem has no significant impact on academic performance. However, emotional stability showed positive correlation with academic performance. Results also revealed that there were non-significant gender differences in all variables.

Excerpt from the Book
1.1 Background of Study
Academic performance is one of the most crucial educational outcomes throughout the whole educational journey of a student and it is also a key variable of this study. It is an important educational goal a person achieved in their academic journey. Pursuing of good academic performance satisfies several purposes including a better career and job. Students have spots of failure and achievement in their academic careers and this has to be assessed in order to promote improvement and make use of educational development. In educational institutions, success is measured by academic performance. Good academic performance leads to offer more career choices and job security. Many factors influence the academic performance of students. Some of them that will consider in this study are social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability.
These days, social networking sites (SNSs) including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. serve as the main communication and connection tools and these networking sites are referred as social media (Ellison & Boyd, 2007). According to a study, 90% of young adults use social media (Perrin, 2015), while students spend about 8-10 hours browsing through different sites and apps per day (Kirkorian et al., 2008; Park & Lee, 2014). There are enormous advantages of social media in the field of education such as enhancing relationships, improving learning motivation, offering personalized course material, and developing collaborative abilities (Rifkin et al., 2009). But there are also shreds of evidence that for students, social media is like a two-edged sword, it is beneficial in connecting with others, sharing, and retrieving information but on the other hand, its addiction can cause serious and negative consequences on the academic life of students (Azizi et al., 2019; Kolan & Dzandza, 2018).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the core focus of this research?
The study investigates the influence of three specific factors—social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability—on the academic performance of undergraduate students at public sector universities.
What are the primary themes discussed in this work?
The work focuses on educational psychology, specifically examining if and how habitual social media consumption, self-worth (self-esteem), and emotional regulation (emotional stability) affect university grades.
What is the main objective or research question?
The central objective is to identify whether social media usage, self-esteem, and emotional stability function as predictors of academic performance and to analyze if these relationships differ by gender.
Which scientific methods were employed?
The research uses a quantitative, descriptive, and correlational design. Data was collected via a survey questionnaire (including established scales like the SNAIS and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), analyzed using SPSS-26, and tested with correlation and linear regression analysis.
What topics does the main body cover?
The body covers a comprehensive literature review of personality theories and social media impact, followed by a rigorous quantitative analysis of data collected from 165 students.
Which keywords define this research?
Key terms include Academic Performance, Social media, Self-esteem, Emotional Stability, and Personality Traits as associated with student success.
Why were social media and emotional stability chosen for investigation?
They were chosen because they are pervasive aspects of modern student life and personality development that frequently correlate with academic adjustment, especially in the context of recent global educational shifts.
How does this study relate to the COVID-19 pandemic?
The author discusses how the pandemic forced an educational shift to online platforms, potentially increasing the positive utility of social media for collaborative learning compared to past assessments of these digital habits.
What were the major conclusions of the analysis?
The results indicated that while social media usage and self-esteem had no significant impact on GPA in this sample, emotional stability showed a positive and significant correlation with academic performance.
What recommendations does the author make?
Based on the finding that emotional stability is a predictor of academic success, the author recommends that university administration and teaching faculty prioritize measures to help students improve their emotional regulation and stability.
