  • Assessment of the awareness levels among women regarding maternity and child healthcare schemes.
  • Investigation into the professional challenges encountered by medical officers at PHCs.
  • Evaluation of the impact of existing government healthcare programs on infant and maternal mortality outcomes.
  • Development of the "HealthConnect" model for enhancing primary healthcare infrastructure and efficiency.

Excerpt from the Book

1.1. Healthcare Industry

The healthcare sector is both one of the largest and one of the most rapidly expanding industries in the world. Health care can constitute a significant portion of an economy, as evidenced by the fact that it accounts for more than 10 % of gross domestic product (GDP) in most developed countries. The total amount spent on medical care in the United States in 2019 was $3.8 trillion, or $11,582 per individual. This represents a 4.6 percent increase over 2018. When calculated as a percentage of the country's total gross domestic product, health care spending accounted for 17.7 %. In nations that are members of the OECD, annual spending on healthcare and pharmaceuticals has consistently increased from around USD $200 per person in the 1970s to an average of USD $4000 per person in current spending power equivalences.

Healthcare innovation has picked up great speed in the last couple decades. In terms of corporate R&D investments, the healthcare industry accounts for roughly 20% of the total worldwide. When it comes to private research and development spending, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries much outpace all others. When it comes to European corporations' investments in research and development, the health care industry is second only to the automotive industry. In addition, governments invest much in scientific studies of health issues. That is to say, the healthcare industry is crucial to the expansion of the economy's value-added and, more generally, to the expansion of economies' capacity to grow based on innovation.

Trade data also demonstrates that the health industry is truly a global one. For decades, Europe and the United States have been the two primary trading hubs for health items, especially health goods including hospital devices, sophisticated medical technology, and pharmaceuticals. There has also been an increase in the exchange of healthcare-related services such as logistics and research and development. The rapid dissemination of new and revolutionary health goods through trade and investment has contributed significantly to the enormous advances in human wellness and well-being seen over time. This trend is only expected to accelerate, and with the healthcare industry poised on the verge of another quantum innovation leap, international trade will remain crucial to meeting the growing need for high-quality, cost-effective medical care.
