What academic challenges or difficulties do online students of the National and Foreign Language Teaching Program face during their studies?
Online education has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, offering flexibility and access to academic training to a greater number of students; however, this modality presents challenges that can affect the learning process.
The main problems facing online learners today is the lack of interaction and feedback, this can trigger lack of understanding of content.Sometimes, students find online teaching boring and unappealing because online teaching videos are too long, which reduces students' enthusiasm and interest in learning (Li and Wang, 2019). Factors such as connectivity, access to teaching resources, and clarity in instructions can also influence their performance.Online programs should be designed to be creative,
interactive, relevant, student-centered, and group-based (Partlow and Gibbs, 2003).
Students face various academic difficulties ranging from time management and autonomy in learning to limited interaction with teachers and peers.Although asynchronous online learning provides a lot of response time and high degrees of flexibility for students, they still struggle to find enough time to complete assignments (Knox, 2016).
The purpose of this research is to analyze the academic challenges faced by the students of the National and Foreign Language Teaching Program in the online modality, and to find possible solutions to improve their educational experience.

Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
1. Introduction: This introductory chapter sets the stage for the research by highlighting the significant growth of online education and its accompanying challenges. It emphasizes the issues faced by online learners, such as lack of interaction, difficulty in understanding content, and boredom with lengthy teaching videos. The chapter introduces the research question: What academic challenges do online students of the National and Foreign Language Teaching Program face during their studies? It establishes the need for this study by pointing out the various academic difficulties faced by online learners, including time management, autonomy in learning, and limited interaction. The chapter's purpose is clearly defined as analyzing the academic challenges and suggesting solutions to improve the educational experience for online students.
1.1 Review Literature: This chapter delves into the existing literature surrounding the challenges of online language learning. It explores the global importance of English and its impact on education, noting that its dominance necessitates increased focus on English language teaching worldwide, even impacting the adoption of English as the medium of instruction in many higher education institutions, including in Ecuador. The chapter then examines the challenges of learning English as a foreign language, both before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the shift to online learning necessitated by lockdowns and the impact on both educators and students. It presents various studies exploring online learning methodologies, their effectiveness, and the barriers they present, including research indicating both positive aspects (increased interaction, improved oral proficiency) and significant drawbacks (lack of management support, technology and language barriers). The chapter further details challenges faced by students in online education, focusing on aspects such as access, technology issues, information overload, time management, lack of face-to-face interaction, and the psychological impacts of isolation and stress. Finally, it discusses strategies students suggest for improvement such as personalized support, discussion forums, increased feedback, and more engaging learning tools. The chapter's synthesis of existing research provides a strong foundation for the current study.
2. Methodology: This chapter outlines the research design and methodology used in the study. The researchers employed a triangulation approach, combining quantitative (survey) and qualitative (interviews) data collection methods. This mixed-methods approach aimed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the research problem and to enhance the reliability and validity of the findings. The sampling method was convenience sampling, selecting readily available participants willing to participate. The chapter states that a total of 10 participants were included, a sample size deemed suitable for an exploratory study of this nature.
