The term global is derived from the Latin word globus meaning ball which refers to the ball of the earth, the planet earth or what has become known as the blue planet by virtue of its marvelous blue appearance as seen by the astronauts from space.
Consciousness is another Latin term which, according to language specialists, entered Western languages toward the end of the 12th century. Its Latin root word is conscientia which has the meaning of knowledge.

Research Objectives and Themes

The primary objective of this work is to explore the paradigm shift in global management by integrating traditional intercultural approaches with a higher level of transcultural consciousness, utilizing concepts from both quantum physics and human spiritual traditions to foster effective global leadership.

  • The role of consciousness and awareness in navigating global management complexity.
  • Application of the "quantum cultural approach" to synthesize diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Integration of the EPG profile (Ethnocentric, Polycentric, Geocentric) for strategic organizational development.
  • The transition from managing cultural "objects" to practicing self-management through inner awareness.
  • Structural and functional unity within the global management environment.

Excerpt from the Book

Quantum Cultural Approach

I have used the quantum paradigm as a metaphor in transcultural management, in particular in order to highlight the interdependence between the perceiver and the perceived and the creative probabilistic quality that goes with such a presumed quantum cultural consciousness and the connected quantum cultural optic, which provides radically different but complementary perceptions of culture, such as an atomistic perception of the world of culture or a holistic perception of culture. In analogy to the quantum paradigm, in particular to Niels Bohr's complementarity principle, I can view the cultural universe as consisting of n particles of specific cultures or I can look at it as a continuous ocean of waves. I can look at a specific culture or at the oneness of the field of culture and then contextualize the specific culture within this unified field of human civilization. So, I can emphasize the static, specific or the dynamic in its totality.

This quantum approach is important because it has an impact on the management of the cultural subject-object continuum. I can either view the inner and the outer culture as an integrated continuum, in which the position of the observer impacts the observed, or I can disconnect the continuum and assume that the cultural atom can be managed independently of the inner cultural position of the observer. The interconnection or the disconnection of the inner and the outer culture impact intercultural effectiveness.

Summary of Chapters

The Metanational Company in the Knowledge Economy: Examines how multinational firms leverage scattered specialist knowledge globally to maintain a competitive edge.

Geocentrism and Global Consciousness: Discusses the transition toward an earth-centered (geo) mindset, highlighting both facilitating and hindering forces in the global environment.

Quantum Cultural Approach: Applies metaphors from quantum physics to explain how managers can integrate disparate cultural perspectives into a unified, dynamic field.

The Noetic Level and Human Constitution: Analyzes the integrative role of the "noetic" (mental/spiritual) level in understanding the human psyche and organizational management.

From Intercultural to Transcultural Management Practice: Synthesizes various management models and provides actionable tools for practitioners to bridge cultural divides through awareness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the core focus of this work?

The work focuses on evolving global management by moving beyond standard intercultural techniques toward a "transcultural" approach that emphasizes consciousness, awareness, and integrated mental models.

What are the central themes discussed?

Key themes include the integration of inner and outer cultural spaces, the application of quantum metaphors to management, the EPG profile framework, and the role of the individual manager's consciousness in organizational success.

What is the primary goal of the author?

The goal is to provide a holistic framework that enables managers to transcend cultural barriers and effectively operate within the complexity of a globalized knowledge economy.

Which scientific methodologies are utilized?

The author employs interdisciplinary metaphors, drawing from quantum physics (Bohr’s complementarity, Heisenberg’s uncertainty), ancient philosophical traditions (Vedanta, Buddhist, and Christian thought), and established management research (Schein, Adler, Hofstede).

What is covered in the main body of the text?

The main body moves from theoretical definitions of global consciousness to the practical application of transcultural profilers, culminating in a synopsis of specific strategic tools for the global manager.

Which keywords best describe this text?

Keywords include Global Consciousness, Transcultural Management, Quantum Cultural Approach, EPG Profile, and Knowledge Economy.

How does the author define the "quantum cultural approach"?

It is defined as a metaphorical use of quantum physics principles to view culture either as separate "particles" or as a "continuous ocean of waves," allowing managers to choose the appropriate "optic" for specific situations.
