Ancestor worship entails a deep conviction that the ancestors of a person ideally have supernatural powers. It is true that almost all societies and cultures apply some unwavering significance to dead members of their families. However, this practice cannot be equated with the issue of ancestor worship. In ancestor worship, people appease their ancestors in a fashion similar to that which is directed towards spirits, gods, demons and saints, among others. The Chinese example of ancestor worship depicts elements of social, artistic and political attachments that have existed since time immemorial. It is important to acknowledge ancestor worship in China owing to its significance to the masses.
