This paper analyzes Ethiopia’s evolving political strategy through the framework of Realpolitik, strategic partnerships, and emotional political mobilization. It examines the historical roots of Ethiopia’s realist diplomacy and its transformation under the Medemer philosophy into a policy of diplomatic hedging in a multipolar world, including BRICS membership and transactional global partnerships. The study also explores the role of nationalist rhetoric and digital mobilization in shaping domestic politics. It concludes that Ethiopia’s regional influence ultimately depends on internal stability, inclusive governance, and balancing pragmatic statecraft with national cohesion.
