A Chanson De Geste championing the deeds of Reynald de Châtillon. Was he a crook or was he true Crusader?
As a Special Project I decided to write a poem about whether Reynald de Châtillon was a crook or a crusader. The genre of poem used is a Chanson De Geste. A Chanson de Geste literally means Song of Deeds. These epic poems were popular in France from the eleventh century and often dealt with the crusades. They are distinctly composed with stanzas of differing lengths. Each line is characterised by ten or twelve syllables. In this case, the poem follows a ten syllable formula. The structure of the poem follows a chronological or episodic narrative.
