China has become one of the world’s leading countries in renewable energy development through its large-scale mega solar projects. These projects are mainly built in desert and remote regions where sunlight is strong and land is widely available. The main purpose of these projects is to reduce dependence on coal, lower carbon emissions and support a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. This paper discusses the background behind China’s investment in mega solar projects, their objectives, economic and social impacts, environmental benefits, challenges and future prospects. It also explains how these projects contribute to energy security, job creation, infrastructure development and global climate goals. Although challenges such as high investment costs, energy storage and environmental concerns still exist, China’s mega solar projects demonstrate how renewable energy can support both economic growth and environmental protection. Overall, the study highlights China’s role in leading the global transition toward clean energy and provides useful lessons for other countries seeking sustainable development.
