Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted various fields, making them more efficient and automated. However, as it is improving at an increasing pace, it is also creating complex cybersecurity challenges. The qualitative-descriptive methodology, based on secondary sources, is used in this seminar paper to explore the dual nature of AI: both a defensive tool and a source of modern threats (such as phishing powered by AI, deepfakes, automated malware). The study investigates the significant consequences these AI-powered attacks have on individuals and organisations, including financial fraud, privacy violations, operational disruptions, and reputational damage. To combat these rising threats, the paper emphasises important mitigation factors such as deploying advanced security technologies, comprehensive employee awareness training, strong authentication, and effective incident response plans. Ultimately, the research concludes that a proactive and collaborative approach is vital for managing the security risks of the AI era while leveraging its technological benefits.
