Excerpt from the Book

1. The background to change

After a company developed a corporate strategy the change management process is part of the strategy implementation. One purpose of change management is to ensure the required changes to implement the strategy successfully. Another point is that the company itself and the environment also change constantly. It is therefore necessary to consider current changes affecting the company. As nobody can say what will happen in the future, change management means reacting as soon as possible after realising change in the environment. However, a great deal of decision making is based on assumptions how the world will be tomorrow. Today the rate of change is striking, but still very different from industry to industry. Dealing with the speed of change in all areas – technology, society, environment, information, business etc. – is the main challenge for today’s organisations.
