Environmental changes have been marked with climate change and global warming.Scientists have intensified research to deepen understanding with regard to environmental issues. However, their findings would be useless if they are not disseminated to the public.Nevertheless, the field of environmental journalism was developed in the 20th century to bring information to the public.Clearly, science and the field of environmental journalism have contributed to the society, the public and the policy making process in different ways. This essay explores the contribution of science and environmental science in relation to social and human development.

Research Objectives and Themes
This study aims to explore the pivotal role of environmental journalism in bridging the gap between scientific research and public understanding, ultimately contributing to societal development. It examines how effective communication strategies can translate complex environmental issues into actionable knowledge for the public and policymakers.
- The historical evolution and professionalization of environmental journalism.
- The symbiotic relationship between scientific discovery and public awareness.
- Methodological challenges in communicating technical environmental data to non-expert audiences.
- The impact of environmental journalism on sustainable development and advocacy.
- The necessity of synergy between scientists and media practitioners.
Excerpt from the Book
Collaboration between Scientist and Environmental Journalism
Scientists carry out a lot of research in accordance to issues affecting the environment. These issues affect the society and humans. However, they are unable to understand the findings put forth by the scientist due to the complex language used. In the same context, scientists are not easily understood by the public and the society because their communication strategy does not take cognizance of the general public. Communication among scientist lacks emotions and is neutral making it hard for the public to relate with the information. With regard to scientific communication, only the facts speak and convince and motivate the audience not the person explicating them or the hope that the theory is right. With reference to public communication, the quality of discussion of data is not enough. Incorporation of emotion is vital (Diedring, 2008).
Even though the findings of science are important, they may not make much sense until the people are able to relate with the content. This is where the field of environmental journalism comes in. Environmental journalists represent the interest of the public. Consequently, they will bring out information in a manner that keeps up with the interests. The environmental journalists also ask questions which enhance knowledge acquisition (Carrada, 2006). Unlike scientists who also consider facts, environmental journalists grasp issues and also consider a wide range of opinions and possibility. They do so without getting baffled with complexity. For the reason that the environmental journalists incorporate some emotion with the content of research, they aid in setting the public interest agenda (Diedring, 2008).
