There are different extra-curricular activities for every university in the world. The Philippines is no exception, the researcher observes that universities such as De La Salle University (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), and University of the Philippines (UP) have their own extra-curricular activities that students actively take part in. In the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) there exist multiple extra-curricular activities a student can take part in such as, the Media Management Committee (MMC), Dulaang Roc, Viare, Communitas, Bosun (the school publication), and many more to mention. The researcher has observed that despite the myriad of extra-curricular activities a student can take part in; there are students who become active and eventually become inactive in participating.
Since extra-curricular activities have different benefits (Holloway, 2000), the researcher observes that being active is good because students can take advantage of the benefits offered. Moreover, because of these benefits the researcher finds it questionable to investigate further if simply having fun is the most influencing factor for active participation. Therefore, it has led to the researcher to further probe what other factors influence active participation in extra-curricular activities of select university students in UA&P.

Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1: THE PROBLEM AND THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE: This chapter introduces the research question: what factors influence active participation in extracurricular activities? It reviews existing literature on active participation, differentiating between co-curricular and extracurricular activities and their respective benefits. The chapter establishes a conceptual framework, outlines the scope and limitations of the study, and details its significance for students, professors, parents, and future researchers. It concludes with a clear statement of the problem and definitions of key terms.
Chapter 2: METHOD: This chapter details the research methodology employed, which uses a descriptive research design incorporating surveys and interviews. It describes the selection of participants (a mix of male and female UA&P students), the research instruments used (a questionnaire with both closed and open-ended questions), and the data-gathering procedure. The chapter explains the qualitative data analysis (QDA) approach used to interpret the results, emphasizing the use of frequency analysis and the connection to the literature review.
Chapter 3: PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF FINDINGS: This chapter presents and analyzes the findings of the study, focusing on the key themes that emerged from the data. It explores the importance of learning opportunities, the development of social skills, the pursuit of knowledge and positive experiences, and the role of effective time management in active participation. The chapter also examines the benefits gained by students, such as increased knowledge, enhanced prestige, and resume-building opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions: A Study on Active Participation in Extracurricular Activities
What is the focus of this research paper?
This research paper investigates the factors influencing active participation in extracurricular activities among university students at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P). It explores whether motivations extend beyond simple enjoyment to encompass sustained involvement.
What are the key themes explored in the study?
The study examines several key themes, including: the definition and characteristics of active participation; the distinctions between co-curricular and extracurricular activities; the benefits students derive (knowledge, skills, prestige, resume building); the role of socialization and social skills development; and the importance of effective time management in balancing academic and extracurricular commitments.
What is the research methodology employed?
The study utilizes a descriptive research design, incorporating surveys and interviews with a mixed group of male and female UA&P students. Data collection involved questionnaires (with both closed and open-ended questions), and qualitative data analysis (QDA) was used, focusing on frequency analysis and connections to the literature review.
What are the main findings of the study (Chapter 3)?
Chapter 3 presents and analyzes the findings, focusing on key themes emerging from the data. These themes include the importance of learning opportunities, social skills development, the pursuit of knowledge and positive experiences, and effective time management. The benefits for students, such as increased knowledge, enhanced prestige, and resume-building opportunities, are also examined.
