The causes of juvenile delinquency have being a field that many scholars have built their research on. In addition, causes leading to violent behavior especially among the youth has being widely studied aiming at intervention at an early stage (Schreck, Fisher, & Miller, 2012). In the vast field of psychology, human violence is a key element consequently; psychologists evaluate how the environment interacts with the individual to result in a violent act (Jessica, Osmond, & Ballick, 2014).
Juvenile violence is a key issue in the corridors of justice on a global scale. However, juvenile violence focuses on the punishment rather than development of mechanisms that may be instrumental in prevention and intervention at early stage in life (Winterdyk, 2014).
There are two outstanding themes in this literature review. First theme is that various life events and immediate environment including home, school, and neighborhood is essential in shaping ones trajectory as ones transit from childhood through adolescence to adulthood. The second theme is that identifying such life events is the determining factor of delinquent behavior. In summary, the pathway to crime for a child is greatly dependent on the social bonds that exist in the society.

Research Objectives and Themes
This work aims to examine the multifaceted causes of juvenile delinquency and to evaluate the effectiveness of various prevention and intervention strategies implemented throughout different life stages. It addresses the central research question of how environmental factors and life events influence the developmental trajectory of youth toward or away from criminal behavior.
- Analysis of risk factors including family, neighborhood, and school environments.
- Investigation of the impact of mass media, technology, and entertainment on juvenile behavior.
- Evaluation of prevention and intervention models ranging from pre-natal care to adolescence.
- Assessment of the role of social support structures and family dynamics in rehabilitation.
Excerpt from the Book
Physical Conditions
The first category is the physical condition of a child that influences the child’s behavior in a number of ways that may eventually translate to delinquent behaviors. Physical issues such as disabilities, malnutrition, and drug abuse amongst others contribute to how a child responds to certain situations (Arseneault, Tremblay, Boulerice, S覵in, & Jean-Franæ, 2011). These physical conditions of the child may influence their behavior in several ways. First, the physical disabilities may be the direct cause of the delinquency. Secondly, to compensate for these disabilities, the child may engage in delinquent behavior. Lastly, the nature of the bodily condition may result in abundance of energy finding outlet in delinquency behavior(Staff, Osgood, Schulenberg, Bachman, & Messersmith, 2010).
Summary of Chapters
Introduction: Provides an overview of the research field regarding juvenile delinquency, highlighting the importance of environmental factors and early intervention.
History of Juvenile Justice System: Discusses the evolution of the legal approach to juvenile crime, moving from adult-style punishment to the development of reform-oriented institutions.
Risk Factors Contributing to Juvenile Delinquency: Examines six primary categories of influence, including physical, mental, domestic, academic, neighborhood, and environmental factors.
Phases of Prevention and Intervention: Outlines structured approaches to mitigating delinquency, focusing on stages from pre-natal support through early childhood and school-age interventions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the primary focus of this work?
The work provides a comprehensive literature review on the causes of juvenile delinquency and the corresponding prevention and intervention strategies.
Which factors are identified as major contributors to delinquency?
Key contributors include home conditions, school environments, neighborhood factors, physical and mental states, and the influence of mass media.
What is the core research objective?
The objective is to understand how various life events and environmental interactions shape the developmental trajectory of youth and how intervention can mitigate these risks.
What scientific methods are utilized?
The study relies on an extensive review and synthesis of existing academic literature, statistical reports, and theoretical frameworks within the field of juvenile justice and psychology.
What does the main body cover?
The main body details specific risk factors, examines the impact of media and technology on youth behavior, and discusses intervention phases across the life course.
Which keywords best describe this research?
The research is best characterized by terms such as Juvenile Delinquency, Prevention Strategies, Early Intervention, and Psychosocial Development.
How does the author characterize the role of the family in juvenile delinquency?
The author identifies the family as a central influence; neglectful, authoritarian, or abusive parenting styles are cited as major factors that can destabilize a child's social and psychological development.
What impact do violent video games and media have according to the text?
The text suggests that constant exposure to violent content desensitizes youth, leading to increased aggression and the adoption of violence as a means for conflict resolution.
Why is pre-natal intervention considered significant?
Pre-natal intervention is highlighted because early environmental stress can impact neural development, affecting a child's stress response mechanisms and their susceptibility to delinquent behavior later in life.
How should the education system contribute to prevention?
The author argues that schools should play an active role by identifying delinquency tendencies, implementing anti-bullying programs, and providing a supportive environment that encourages student engagement.
